Hey, Becky I'm interested in your Lavering ancestor. My husband's family includes Phebe E. Fenton. b 1835-1842. Wakarusa,Elkhart, Indiana who died March-June, 1880 in Kosciusko County. She married, on 28 Sep 1867 in Elkhart county, David Lavering. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about David beyond his name. I know of 5 children of this couple. Phebe had previously been married to William Shelly. Have you ever heard of this David?

Looks like we have a kinexxion! David was the son of William & Elizabeth (Schuder) Lavering. He was born 30 Sep 1844, married Phebe E. Shelly 28 Sep 1867. She died 05 Apr 1880. David then married Martha Alice Fuller 17 Nov 1885. He was 48 and she was 21. David and Martha had two children. David died 19 Oct 1888 of typhoid fever and is buried at Oswego, Indiana. I don't have a complete list of all of David's children. After David's death, Martha married Aaron Bell 13 Feb 1896 and they had four children.

I don't have this data in my genealogy program. This information comes from research done by my 1st cousin. I have her papers scanned as a pdf and could send that to you. It would at least provide some clues, though it is a bit confusing at first glance.

How does your husband connect to the Laverings?

Wait a minute, I spoke too soon! The Lavering Family book mentioned in my post on William & Elizabeth provides a listing of David's children on page 839.

Phebe E. Fenton born between 1835 and 1842 married, first, William Shelly, born ca 1830-1840, and died unknown. Her second husband was Lavering, that you mentioned.

Phebe was the daughter of John Fenton and Lydia Jones. I have the will of Lydia Jones's aunt Margaret Jones, leaving estate to the children of Lydia Jones, deceased. The will deliniates the relationship of the children to Lydia, and therefore to John.

John Fenton, 1802-1872 remarried to Eliza John and they had a family of 5, 3 living to adulthood. John and Eliza ended up in Wexford County, Michigan where he died and she remarried. John Fenton was my husband's second great-grandfather.Phebe Fenton Shelly Lavering would be a (half) great grandaunt of my husband.

We don't connect to the Laverings, except descendants of Phebe. I didn't have her death date, but knew she had died or disappered.

I have the estate paperwork and other items have scanned and will e-mail to you, if you can send me an e-mail address.

Small world. Very small.
