As rabbits naturally have a tendency to do, the Graveyard Rabbit is producing new blogs at an astounding rate! Just in case you haven't heard, Terry Thornton has started a new venture and has invited fellow genea-bloggers to join The Association of Graveyard Rabbits.
I wish Terry and all of the other bloggers joining him great success with their blogs and will be supporting them from the sidelines. It is with some degree of regret and envy, that, for a variety of personal reasons, I will not be joining Terry and the other bloggers in this project. I believe the Graveyard Rabbit is an admirable project and that only good things can come of it.
Perhaps I'm just not good at time management, but the primary reason for not participating is, quite simply, a matter of time. There are only so many hours in a day and so much that I want and need to accomplish that I just don't feel that I can add another obligation to the list.
In addition to not taking on any new projects until my current list has been whittled down a bit, I have recently cut back on active participation in my local genealogy society. For a little over five years I was editor of their quarterly publication, was chairperson of the First Families and Pioneer Families programs, was chairperson of the Publications Committee, and was the go-to person for questions regarding computer problems and the internet. For the most part, those positions are being handed over to someone else.
I have also chosen to not participate so much in Facebook. I'll still add friends and join other Blog Networks when requested, but I am no longer accepting "gifts" or invitations to most of the other "applications" available in Facebook.
Also, I will be selective about the memes and challenges in which I choose to participate. I applaud those who dream up the memes and those who participate in them, but choices, sometimes difficult must be made if I am to accomplish my goals. Distractions are good, in moderation, but it seems that lately there have been too many temptations pulling me away from my goals. So please, do not be offended if I choose not to respond to a meme or challenge, it's not personal, by any means.
I wish you all well in your endeavors, whatever they may be.

Becky, Thanks for the mention and the encouragement. Please know that my favorite "Hoosier Rabbit" will always have an open invitation to membership whenever your plate is empty and you have time to be a graveyard rabbit.

Hi Becky,
No guilt! I had to turn Terry down as well, for the same reasons. I, too, have been wearing many hats for my gen society and I have been in the process of narrowing down my responsibilities and setting priorities. Thanks for speaking up!

Amen sister!
I have been where you're at for some time now. I never did engage in the whole facebook thing because my kids warned me it's a colossal time waster. I do have a fb page but I never post to it or to anyone else's page either for that matter. I keep my circle of friends small although why I even bother I'm not sure. I just don't have the time for fb. And I definitely don't have the time for yet another blog.
I have a hard time keeping my enthusiasm in check. I know I have a tendency to over commit and then what initially was a pleasure becomes stressful and a burden. I'm trying desperately to change that by saying "no" more often and scaling back on what I'm already doing. Some days I'm more successful than others. Like you, I always worry that I'll be perceived as a party pooper for not going along. It's not that I don't have the interest, I just don't have the time.
Terry, you're quite welcome. By the time I get my current project list completed I'll be a gray-haired graveyard rabbit. LOL!
Kathryn and Jasia, thanks for the moral support. 'Tis appreciated!
Congratulations on learning how to say "No"! All of us need to do it more often. (Even better would be to learn how to say it without feeling guilty about it.) I'll be honest -- I would not have added a second blog if my first blog didn't already have a focus on cemeteries. And I couldn't agree more about Facebook. Enough with the "noise"!
I'm not good at saying no but I'm getting better at it. I've avoided fb so far and have come to believe I must be the lone hold out. I think the Terry's project is great, just not for me at this time. Now if I could only learn to say no at work. *sigh*
Well, you can see how bad I am at managing time, I've just gotten around to reading everyone's posts for the last three weeks!
While I did except the invitation on becoming a graveyard rabbit, you will notice I haven't joined Facebook. I knew that I would be spending a whole lot of time I DIDN"T have, if I joined. (Okay, we can talk about lack of self control at some later date.)
So Kudos to you, Dear Becky, for knowing when to say no, and for reminding me not to feel guilty when I say no!!!

The ability to comment has been turned off for all blog posts effective 21 May 2018. Kinexxions has been inactive for more than two years and most comments have come to me directly via email from readers but more than a few were simply spam. My desire is to keep the blog available to the public since there is value in what has been published, particularly posts dealing with family history.
I am still extremely interested in hearing from readers who might be related and have questions or simply want contact with a distant cousin. Please contact me directly via email at kinexxions@gmail.com
This action is also being taken partially due to the General Data Protection Regulation aka "GDPR" going into effect on 25 May 2018. Even though it is a regulation implemented by the European Union that primarily affects businesses and corporations, it governs how data about people can be used. That includes comments left on blog posts, thus the ability to comment is no longer available.
