Bray Family :: Index to Posts

An Index Post is how I keep track of all of the blog posts that have been written on a family line.  It helps keep me organized and allows visitors to easily find information on that family. This post will be updated as new blog posts are written on the family.

Henry Bray is my 5th great-grandfather (times two). His daughter Margaret as well as his son John are my 4th great-grandparents. Margaret married James Ball and their daughter Susanna married Samuel, son of John. Yes, Susanna and Samuel were first cousins. At least it reduces the number of ancestors that need to be researched! At the time of his death, Henry's wife was named Cathryn. It is not known whether or not she was the mother of any or all of  his 11 known children.

Naomi Bray, daughter of Samuel and Susanna (Ball) Bray, married Charles Wiseman in 1849 in Switzerland County, Indiana. They were the parents of five children - their son, Samuel Bray Wiseman is my great-grandfather.

• Locating the Ancestral Lands in Kentucky - May 22, 2012 - Henry Bray removed to Nelson County about 1790 and settled along Pottinger's Creek southeast of what is now New Haven, Kentucky.

John Bray - 4th Great Grandfather

• Tombstone Tuesday :: John Bray - September 08, 2009 - John is buried in McKay Cemetery, Craig Township, Switzerland County, Indiana

• A Day with a Distant Cousin! - November 10, 2010 - I met up with Jesse, a descendant of John Bray and his second wife Elizabeth Coones (or Coonis or Coonies). Includes an image of their marriage record from Gallatin County, Kentucky.

These three posts document the information known about John Bray and when he settled in Switzerland County, Indiana. Research done for possible submission to the Territorial Guard Society of Indiana.

Johann Jacob Berlin (aka Jacob Berlin) is my 6th great-grandfather and is one of my Immigrant Ancestors. Born December 17, 1716 in what is now Niederbronn, France Jacob arrived in Philadelphia on November 9, 1738 on-board the Charming Nancy with two younger brothers, Frederick and Abraham. Jacob died April 7, 1790 in York County, Pennsylvania. He was the father of five children, one of which was John Frederick Berlin (1742-1836). Frederick and his wife (reportedly Susan Wagner) were the parents of four children. Their son, John Frederick (1771-1843) and his wife (reportedly Juliana Dietzler) were the parents of nine children, the eldest being John D. Berlin.

• There were three brothers who immigrated... Yeah, Right! - June 11, 2012 - Yes, there really were three brothers who came together in 1738 on the Charming Nancy.
• Jacob Berlin :: The Voyage Across the Ocean - June 13, 2012 - The year 1738 became known as "The Year of the Destroying Angels" with an extraordinary number of deaths and illness among the German immigrants and the 'Charming Nancy' was not exempt.
• Tombstone Tuesday :: Jacob Berlien (1716-1790) - June 12, 2012 - Jacob is buried in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Abbottstown, Adams County, Pennsylvania. A photo of his tombstone was obtained from an online "genealogy angel" who gave permission for its use.

John D. Berlin (my 3rd great-grandfather) was the eldest of nine children of John Frederick Berlin whose wife was reportedly Juliana Dietzler. He was born on December 8th, 1792 near Abbottstown in York (now Adams) County, Pennsylvania. He was married to Susannah Hoffman on February 16th, 1826. She was born March 9, 1804 in Columbiana County, Ohio and was the second of eleven children of John and Catherine (Coy) Hoffman.

John D. and Susan would become the parents of ten children. They would move to Portage County, Ohio in 1846 and 18 years later to Elkhart County, Indiana where they would live for the remainder of their lives.
